School Community Councils

General Information

School Community Councils were elected or acclaimed in the spring of 2007. School Community Councils work with schools to support the learning success and well-being of all children and youth. Councils encourage and facilitate parent, community and youth engagement in school planning and the school improvement process.The School Community Council may also play a role in advising the Board of Education on policies, programs and education service delivery. The Council may advise on such things as school facility and grounds, grade discontinuance and school closure, fundraising and school fees, and innovative local projects.  

School Community Councils are generally made up of parents, community members, staff members and students.   Please contact your local school principal if you have an interest in becoming part of the School Community Council.
